How to store Tangerine Peel

Tangerine peel has many values. In addition to drinking in water, it can also be used as a raw material for making delicious food.

There are five ways to store tangerine peel. First, prepare clean glass bottles, put tangerine peel neatly, and store it with a lid; The second is to put the Tangerine Peel into a pottery jar, pottery jar or purple sand jar, and store it off the ground and off the wall; Third, put it into a metal tank for dry storage; Fourth, pack them in clean cartons and seal them well; Fifth, put it directly in gunny bags and store it in a dry place.

How to store Tangerine Peel?

1、 Glass bottle

The glass jar is one of the most commonly used containers for storing Tangerine Peel at home.

The advantages are: good sealing and convenient for us to observe Tangerine Peel daily;

The disadvantages are: poor air permeability, slow aging, occupying a place, and cannot be stacked. Generally, a 40L glass bottle can only hold 2.5 kg of new leather, and the one with a sealing silicone rubber ring on the lid should be selected.

For household use, due to the good airtightness of glass bottles, it is suitable for Tangerine Peel that has been stable for more than 10 years (a small amount of storage); Or the home environment is relatively humid, and glass bottles are also a good choice.

2、 Pot, Pot or Purple Sand Pot

The ceramic pot has good air permeability. If it is in a dry environment all year round, such as the northern inland, it is a good choice.

Because the tangerine peel is stored in the tank, a small amount of air will seep into the tank, and a slow oxidation-reduction reaction will take place with the tangerine peel, making the tangerine peel keep aging during the storage process. The older the tangerine peel is, the more fragrant the tangerine peel is, and the more interesting the tangerine peel is. Therefore, friends in the north, using ceramic pots to store the tangerine peel will have a very good effect.

For example, the storage environment itself is wet, so it is not suitable.

3、 Metal cans

The metal tank has good sealing and moisture-proof properties, which can keep the Tangerine Peel intact.

It is also one of the most commonly used containers for storing Tangerine Peel at home.

The humidity in the south is relatively high, and iron appliances are most suitable.

The disadvantage is that the aging speed is slightly slow, and the moisture is not timely lost after a long time of sealed storage, which is easy to cause skin burning. It is recommended to build a film bag to play the role of double insurance. You can also add a cotton bag in the tank or add a newspaper at the seal to absorb moisture.

4、 Paper trunk

Tangerine Peel is stored in cartons, which is also a common way for families to store peel, and cartons are also easier to obtain.

The advantages are: easy to take materials and daily use;

The disadvantage is that it is inconvenient to observe. In terms of moisture-proof, the carton has a certain moisture-absorbing effect, but because it is not sealed, it cannot absolutely effectively guarantee the drying of Tangerine Peel. In case of wet weather, it is necessary to put a transparent plastic bag on the outside of the carton and tie it tightly to avoid moisture.

Cartons are only suitable for storing new peels within 3 years. It is recommended not to use cartons for storing Tangerine Peel with a certain number of years to avoid heavy losses due to water seepage or insect and mouse damage;

5、 Gunny bag

The hessian bag has the characteristics of sealing and not losing air, which can accelerate the aging of Tangerine Peel;

The disadvantage is that the storage environment is strict (temperature control and humidity control), and long-term storage will make the Tangerine Peel taste (sack flavor).

The aged Tangerine Peel can be stored in gunny bags, which is moisture-proof and breathable, and can accelerate aging. When it is 5-7 years old, it can be replaced by glass cans or other appliances suitable for local use, to prevent it from smelling when stored in gunny bags for too long.

Storage environment of Tangerine Peel

It is required to store away from the wall, the ground and the top, and the environment should be clean, dry and sanitary, free of foreign smell and peculiar smell.

The temperature and humidity are appropriate. The key control indicators are the relative humidity of the air (≤ 65%) and the moisture content of the skin (≤ 13%). The most suitable aging temperature is 20 ℃ – 30 ℃.

Recommendations for other storage methods

Tangerine peel can be stored in a few different ways, depending on your preferences and how you plan to use it. Here are some options:

Freeze it: Tangerine peel can be frozen in an airtight container or freezer bag for several months. This is a great option if you don’t plan on using it right away and want to preserve it for later use. Frozen tangerine peel is also easier to grate or chop when needed.

Dry it: Tangerine peel can be dried in the sun or in a low-temperature oven. To dry it in the oven, spread the peel in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 150-200°F (65-95°C) for several hours until it is dry and crispy. Once the peel is dry, you can store it in an airtight container for several months.

Store it in the fridge: If you plan to use the tangerine peel within a few weeks, you can store it in the fridge. Place the peel in a plastic bag or container and keep it in the crisper drawer of your fridge.

Store it in sugar: Another option is to store tangerine peel in sugar. To do this, finely grate the peel and mix it with an equal amount of sugar. Store the mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for several weeks. This is a great way to flavor baked goods or to add a sweet citrus flavor to tea or other drinks.

No matter which storage method you choose, make sure the tangerine peel is clean and free of any dirt or debris before storing it.
